Only a few days to go before the Merida Bikes TransWales ’08 will open its doors at the White House Campsite in Builth Wells on the 16th August ’08.
Last minute entries
As mentioned in the last newsletter we still have a few places left for this year’s event. So if you are interested to come along to the Merida Bikes TransWales ’08 (16 – 23rd August 2008) but so far did not manage to secure an entry this is your chance. Simply drop us an email to info@mtbtransuk.co.uk so that we can book you in. If you can’t make it to the whole event maybe just visit us for the day and check out what it is all about. You can find the route plan and further details on http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk/wales/stages.php.
Shuttle service from Cardiff airport and Builth Road train station
As in 2007 when we offered a shuttle service from Edinburgh to the event in Selkirk we will offer that service again. If you are flying into Cardiff and need to be picked up please let us know when you will be arriving and when you are flying back so that we can sort out the logistics at this end. If you should come to the event by train then we can also pick you up from Builth Road (nearest train station to Builth and only 3 miles from the event village). If you should require pickup from there please let us know.
Camping equipment deal
As mentioned on the website we have an equipment offer for everybody who is looking for a deal on a sleeping bag and mattress combo. This was originally meant for the riders who booked the GOLD package and either don’t have or don’t want to bring their own equipment but we have now opened that up to everyone.
The package deal consists of a Mountain Hardwear LAMINA 45 sleeping bag and a Thermarest Basecamp mat which we’re offering for a combined price of £ 90. If you are interested then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make sure that we have enough equipment available. Please pay for the equipment when you pick it up at the registration in Builth Wells.
Only if we receive orders in advance then we can honor them – so please get in touch.

Make our event greener
We have been thinking long and hard over the last year of what we can do to reduce the impact our event has on the environment. Due to constantly being on the move we noticed that the amount of ‘eating’ waste we are generating is one of the biggest problems. So we hooked up with Ergon and came up with two ideas of what we can do. The guys from Ergon are providing every rider with a spork (combination of fork, knife and spoon) to reduce the amount of cutlery we are using throughout the week and the TransWales team has sourced mugs for everybody which are made out of recycled plastic and should be used throughout the week. The riders will find both of these items in their signing on bag. Besides that we have put a system in place which will allow us to separate the remaining rubbish and take it to recycle centers on the way. These are only small steps but hopefully they are the beginning to an ongoing stride towards reducing our environmental impact. I hope that everybody at the event will support our activities and will help our wherever possible.
