Less than a month to go before the 3rd TransUK will get going at the White House Campsite in Builth Wells on the 16th August ’08. The preparations at this end are in full flow and I assume that everybody who entered the TransWales is equally involved in getting ready for the MTB challenge of the year.

Last minute entries: As in previous years we have some last minute cancellations which have opened space for another ten riders. So if you are Road Imageinterested to come along to the Merida Bikes TransWales ’08 but so far did not manage to secure an entry this is your chance. Simply drop us an email to info@mtbtransuk.co.uk so that we can book you in.

Camping equipment deal: As mentioned on the website we have an equipment offer for everybody who is looking for a deal on a sleeping bag and mattress combo. This was originally meant for the riders who booked the GOLD package and either don’t have or don’t want to bring their own equipment but we have now opened that up to everyone.

The package deal consists of a Mountain Hardwear LAMINA 45 sleeping bag and a Thermarest Basecamp mat which we’re offering for a combined price of £ 90. If you are interested then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make sure that we have enough equipment available. Please pay for the equipment when you pick it up at the registration in Builth Wells. It is essential that you book your equipment in advance as we can’t guarantee availability otherwise.

Merida Bikes MTB Marathon Series and Gore Bike Wear Road Sportive: At the end of next week the 4th round of the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon Road Imageseries and the 3rd round of the Gore Bike Wear Road Sportive series will take place in last years start and finish location of the TransScotland – Selkirk Rugby Club and will take place on the 2-3rd August.

Our man on the ground in Selkirk, Peter Laing has put some great courses for the marathon and for the TransScotland and has once more done his magic and found some great mountain biking for the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon (3rd August) and some superb roads for the Gore Bike Wear Road Sportive (2nd August). Four distances will be up for grabs for the off road lovers and two distances for the sportive riders. See the details on all the rides (including profiles and course description) on offer over the weekend here and here. The event village will be signposted from Friday lunchtime onwards and will be open from Friday to Monday morning.

Make a weekend of it: Selkirk is the ideal Merida Bikes MTB Marathon location as it has lots of riding near by. Check out http://www.7stanes.gov.uk/ for the nearest 7Stanes trail. We managed to incorporate a big number of these trails into last year’s TransScotland and they are superb!! Glentress and Innerleithen are just short drives away from Selkirk. Besides that you have Edinburgh just an hour away. So if you are coming up why don’t you make a full weekend or even an extended weekend out of it? For local services check out: http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/local_services/local_services.php.

How to enter the Selkirk round? There are still places left for the Selkirk marathon and the road sportive in case you haven’t entered yet. So if you are looking for a technical yet super enjoyable marathon in the beautiful Scottish countryside or a challenging road sportive in the Scottish borders then make sure you get your entry in quickly. To enter go directly to the entry page to secure your entry for these great events. You will be able to enter on the day subject to a £2 surcharge. Don’t forget that if you enter the road and off road ride on the same weekend there is a discounted weekend ticket for only £45.
