Kona Mash-Up
Entry is now open for the Kona Mash-Up - a different kind of Mountain Bike event. Taking place at Glyncorrwg MTB centre Afan 30th August 2008. Find out more HERE>>

LogoLess than two months to go before the 3rd TransUK will get going at the White House Campsite in Builth Wells on the 16th August ’08. Most of you are probably deep in training and we thought we point out a few events we are involved in which offer ideal training for the upcoming TransWales or you simply might find interesting to take part in.

road ridersMerida Bikes MTB Marathon Series and GORE BIKE WEAR ROAD SPORTIVES
At the end of this week the 3rd round of the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon series and the 2nd round of the Gore Bike Wear Road Sportive series will take place in Builth Wells on the 5-6th July. The event is based at the same location as the Merida Bikes TransWales and the courses will incorporate some sections of the 1st and last stage of the TransWales ’08.

Besides working hard on the TransWales ’08 course John has been spending again pretty much the whole year riding his home trails with only one thought – keeping Builth fresh and exciting. And according to himself he has managed exactly that. The distances at this event are 90K, 75K, 50K and 30K, providing distances for all. We have added further course details including the profiles to the website. The event village will be signposted from Friday lunchtime onwards and will be open from Friday to Monday morning. So if you want to make a weekend out of it - no problem!

To find out more about the 3rd round of the MTB Marathon events and to find out what is going on over the weekend please go to (http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/events/builth_wells.php) or go directly to the entry page to secure your entry.

road ridersFancy a road ride?
After launching the Gore Bike wear Road Sportive Series at the May round in Ruthin the upcoming round in Builth Wells will host the 2nd instalment on Saturday the 5th July. John has been working on the Builth sportive course since we have made the decision to add the road rides to the marathon weekends and has created one of the most beautiful yet challenging sportive courses out there. To find out more about the Builth sportive please read the course description including profiles here and go to the Sportive page to find out what the Gore Bike Wear Road Sportive Series 2008 is all about.

How to enter the Builth Wells round?
The two events offer the ideal training setup for the TransWales and they give you the chance to familiarise yourself with the start and finish location of this year’s event. To enter the road or/and the mountain bike events simply go to the entry page and either download an entry form or enter via our online entry system. You can also enter on the day with a £2 surcharge. If you enter the road and off road ride on the same weekend there is a discounted weekend ticket for only £45.

Merida on Holiday round in Bad Goisern (12th July 2008)
If you fancy a little bit of a mountain bike holiday and you are looking for the ideal training event to do while you are away – look no further. The Salzkammergut has been part of the Merida Bikes MTB Marathon series for many years and has established itself as one of the main marathons in Europe. It is a different riding experience to the UK rounds with long steady climbs, snow capped mountains left and right, clean mountain lakes and an event atmosphere which is second to none. And for the racers out there – the Salzkammergut Trophy is a ‘proper’ race – from start to finish! But there is more than just riding your bike. Bad Goisern awaits its guests with a variety of restaurants, café’s and shops plus a broad range of other activities for the weekend. Check out http://www.salzkammergut-trophy.at/stream and http://www.salzkammergut-trophy.at/photos-pid1137 for some photos and some video footage.

For further details on the event and the latest news go to: http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/events/bad_goisern.php and http://www.mtb-marathon.co.uk/home/news1.php#20089.

Mash-Up (30th August, Glyncorrwg)
Kona Mash-UpThis one is not before the TransWales ’08 but as you might need another event after the TransWales ‘to keep your riding intake up this might be just the ticket. We have been working on a new event idea for a while now and here it finally is – the Mash-Up. The Mash-Up will be taking place on the 30th August at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre near Part Talbot, Wales using the Whites Level and the July Trail (part of the Skyline trail). On the two trails we will have chip activated timed sections set up. Most of these are on the much loved swooping single track and downhill sections plus one on the uphill sections of the Whites Level trail. Riders go through these sections as fast as they can with their accumulated time determining their position within the event. Besides going for the fastest overall time riders will also compete against all other riders (no matter what category) for the fastest time in individual sections – so a XC rider who entered the Enduro Category might be hot on the heels of the local downhill specialist on some of the single track sections. The in-between sections can be ridden at ease or even walked if you prefer – no rush. To find out more and to get your downloadable entry form: go to: http://www.konaworld.uk.com/mash-up/.
