GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales 2011 powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport
Event details

concept image The GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport 2011 and sixth TransUK – 7 day long mountain bike stage challenge takes place 13th August – 20th August 2011 and will start / finish in Builth Wells. Again it will be limited to 300 riders to maintain the atmosphere, the quality of riding and camp locations.

Last year, due to the economic climate and family commitments, many riders told us that they wanted to join us but could only do so for a few days. In response to this we quickly devised the concept of a ‘Mini’ version where riders could join us for three or four days depending on work / family commitments and finances. It proved to be a winner with positive feedback. This year we will be introducing the concept of the ‘Mini’ GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales three or four day option from the start.

How does the ‘Mini’ work?

concept imageThe ‘Mini’ GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport can be ridden over two durations. You can either join the event from the 13th to the 16th August (3 day) or from the 17th to the 20th August (4 day). You will ride the same trails / courses as everybody else and get the same treatment with regards to registration, event holdall, logistics, timing chip, ranking, recognition, finishing jersey, food, camping and facilities. The only difference being is that you are only riding for three or four days. The available categories are the same as for the 7-day event and riders can enter as teams or solos.

NB – the 3-day ‘Mini’ will commence in Builth Wells and end at another location (TBC). The 4-day event will start (location TBC) and finish in Builth Wells. We will obviously make sure that we take you back to your car when your riding days are over.

New for 2011:
Big news for 2011 – introducing the GORE BIKE WEAR™ Prologue Marathon powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport. Taking place on 13th August at 11am, riders can enjoy an approx 40km marathon ride with an optional special stage at the end where riders will get the chance to test their ‘racing skills’. It is open to all TransWales riders (but not compulsory) who want to limber up and get their legs in shape for the big challenge ahead. It is also open to non-TransWales riders who would like a taster of a typical unique day’s riding in the TransWales.

This event is not part of the GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales and the following applies:
• Numbers are limited, so get your entry in quick
• Its non-competitive
• The special stage will be manually timed
• Full use of free camping, event village facilities & feed stations
• Entrants must register before 10.30am on 13th August ready for 11.00am start

Also in 2011, the GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales course will span from the English border all the way to the Welsh coast, giving everyone a truly East to West TransWales experience. It will touch areas never before visited by our event, new sections will be added whilst keeping many of the classic bits in there.

The GORE BIKE WEAR™ TransWales 2011 event:
As with previous years, the event will have categories for teams and solo riders. The riders will be looked after during the day starting with breakfast, an in-depth briefing as to what to expect for each day’s riding of every linking and special stage along the way, rolling lunch, broom wagon and dinner, as well as energy food at selected checkpoints on the linking stages.

All riders will have their equipment, tents and sleeping bags transported from location to location. You will also receive a substantial starter package, which will provide you with some extra equipment with an event holdall, which will carry all your belongings for the duration of the trip, and is yours to keep afterwards as a memento. The TransWales will set up camp at visitor centres, camp grounds, farms and leisure centres along the way and will offer you facilities to keep you as well as your equipment in order.

As always we welcome families, friends and support crews with mobile homes and caravans to accompany you – we request to be notified on the size of vehicle and number of extra people we have to expect at the various locations so that we can make sure that we have enough space for everyone. Please be aware that we might have to charge you a small contribution if extra facilities have to be brought in.
